NHRA AND MIR ANNOUNCE JUNIOR DRAGSTER SHOOTOUT FOR
POTOMAC NATIONALS |

MECHANICSVILLE, MD
– Maryland International Raceway (MIR) and the NHRA
Northeast Division are excited to announce a special
addition to the inaugural NHRA Potomac Nationals: an
8-car Junior Dragster Shootout to be held during the
national event weekend, May 29-31, 2026.
A SPECIAL EXHIBITION Due to the extensive footprint
required for professional teams and the tight broadcast
schedule of an NHRA National Event, pit space and track
time are at a premium. As a result, this program is
designed as an exclusive exhibition shootout limited to
eight cars. This format allows the NHRA and MIR to
showcase the region’s local talent on the big stage
while maintaining the operational flow of the
professional show.
QUALIFICATION FORMAT The field will be comprised of the
Top 8 drivers in the current 2026 1320 Fabrication ET
Series Points Standings. Qualification is based entirely
on merit; the eight drivers with the highest points
total at the designated cutoff date will be invited to
represent MIR.
CUTOFF DATE The field will be set on Sunday, May 17,
2026, at the conclusion of the 1320 Fabrication ET
Series Spring Blowout. Points will be tallied
immediately following the event to lock in the final
field.
FROM THE DIRECTOR "The transition to NHRA is a big step
for the track, but we wanted to make sure the local
racers were part of the excitement," said Mark Dawson,
NHRA Northeast Division Director."Hosting a National
Event is a major production, but it’s important to
showcase the strength of the weekly program here. This
shootout rewards the racers who come out and support the
track early in the season."

Hubble Motorsports Jr Dragster program here at MIR,"
said Royce Miller, Owner of Maryland International
Raceway. "I am excited to include this 8 car Junior
Dragster Shootout at the NHRA Potomac Nationals, to
showcase MIR’s talented young racers. What a memorable
experience this will be for these Junior racers and
parents."
