MECHANICSVILLE, MARYLAND (February 28, 2024) Maryland International Raceway (MIR) is proud to announce Joe Harty has been promoted to Operations Manager.

Joe is one of those guys that just gets things done and is an invaluable part of the MIR team, stated Royce Miller, Owner and Promoter of MIR. Joe wears many hats between facility maintenance, track prep, water box, starter, tech, and staging. Joe has earned his promotion to Operations Manager, and we are fortunate to have him on the team.

Joe has worked at MIR since 2020, starting as a Track Official working the water box. I was reading a post during the COVID-19 Pandemic on a social site about people speeding around my neighborhood, and someone commented about wishing that MIR would open back up (because of the state enforced mandate to close), said Harty. I looked at the job requirements and figured it would be something I would enjoy, and I was right! I love it here!

Joes work ethic, pride, and attention to detail were quickly noticed, gaining the respect of his fellow officials while moving up the ladder to become a Starter. In 2021, he became a full-time member of the maintenance crew while continuing his weekend positions and growing his knowledge of the day-to-day operations along with pre and post event execution. He was also the 2021 recipient of the Recognition of Excellence award.

Joe was a former Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at his previous residence in Tennessee. In February 2024, he received his Maryland EMT Certification to add to his growing resume. Joe is not the only Harty family member that works at MIR. His wife Denise, to whom he has been married for 20 years, is a Clock Operator Tower Official, and both of their sons, Dallas and Connor, work at MIRs Hot Rodz Diner.

I'm excited about working with staff and racers to help our events run smoothly, said Harty. I welcome this new challenge and am eager to continue learning more in my new role.
