MECHANICSVILLE, MARYLAND (July 26th
2023) – The 45th Annual Burchoil Jet
Wars was certainly one to remember
with picture perfect weather for
month of July! While the racers
rolled in on Friday and on Saturday
morning, the main attraction was the
amount of fans that came out
Saturday to catch the Jet and Thrill
Show on Saturday evening. We saw
records fall, stellar racing, and
the always spectacular show put on
by the exhibition vehicles that
traveled from all over to be here at
Maryland International Raceway
(MIR).
Warriors Outlaw
The Warriors Outlaw Drag Race Team
came out and put on a heck of a show
on Saturday. Mike Gerber from Front
Royal, VA was the #1 Qualifier with
a 4.252 at 168.26 MPH with his
Nitrous aided 2000 Chevrolet S10.
Devin Yankey of Warrenton, VA reset
the Warrior Outlaw track MPH record
during the 2nd Qualifying session
going 180.96 MPH. Three fields of
racers went to battle Saturday
starting at 6pm. #1 Qualifier Mike
Gerber and #7 Qualifier Harry
Troxler would line up in the A Field
final. Troxler shocked the world
with low ET of the event with an
astounding and career best 4.188 at
174.98 MPH besting Gerber who put up
a 4.218 at 169.15 for his best pass
of the weekend. 2022 Champion Keith
Rhea would win the B Field, and Dave
Tolley would win the C Field.
On Sunday, Mike Gerber would be the
#1 Qualifier again, but would be
taken out in the second round by
none other than Harry Troxler.
Troxler would face Johnny Haislip of
Severn, MD in the final round for
the A Field. Haislip showcased his
speed and quickness as the #2
Qualifier on Sunday. The final match
up would come with high expectations
as Troxler in the final for the
second time in two days and Haislip
was in his first ever Warrior A
Field final. Troxler, however, would
end up striking the tires on the
starting line while Haislip would
drive away to his first A Field
victory. Jason Unch would win the B
Field and Dave Tolley would win the
C Field going 2 for 2 on the
weekend.

MPC Real Street
The MPC Real Street racers brought a
close field with some familiar
faces, new cars, and new drivers.
While quite a few drivers are
currently still out waiting on
parts, motors, or a multitude of
other things, the drivers that did
show, put on a show. Qualifying
showcased Justin Bowmaker taking the
#1 spot going 4.904 at 143.20 MPH
and reminding everyone why he would
be a threat to win, but new comer
Frank Plovenza was on his heels with
a stout 4.940 at 143.96 MPH. Terry
Holler was the only other driver to
qualify in the 4 second zone going
4.962 at 140.36 MPH. We would see
the #1 and #2 Qualifiers in the
final. Bowmaker and Plovenza would
have one of the closest finished of
the weekend coming down to .0012 at
the finish line. Bowmaker would take
the win on a holeshot over Plovenza.
