MECHANICSVILLE, MARYLAND (September 1, 2022) – It is with heavy hearts we share that Rodney Ward has passed away. Rodney was a long time racer at MIR and passed his passion for the sport to his sons. Rodney also extended the concrete pad on the race track that racers enjoy today. Our hearts and condolences go out to his family and friends.

Rodney Lind Ward, Sr., 67, a lifelong resident of Friendship passed away August 30, 2022. He was born February 3, 1955, in Annapolis to John Willard and Barbara Jean (Tucker) Ward. Rodney grew up in Friendship and graduated from Southern High School. He worked in the concrete industry for many years, owning and operating Stamped Concrete Specialties. Rodney loved drag racing in his younger years and helping his sons junior drag race, as well as tractor pulling, fishing, and socializing with friends. In his later years he enjoyed watching his sons and granddaughters continuing his love of racing through racing their junior dragsters and pro-modified cars. He also loved taking his grand-doggie, Mack for golf cart rides.

Rodney is survived by his sons Derek Ward and his fiancé Mindy Miller of Friendship and Rodney Ward Jr. of Tracy’s Landing, grandchildren Makayla and Jaelynn Ward, and his mother Barbara Jean Ward, as well as his nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his father John Ward. His legacy lives on through his love of many things as well as the influence he had on his children and grandchildren. “Big Pop” will be missed and continually loved.

The family will be accepting flowers and they can be delivered to the funeral home.
